Robeson County's first Habitat project was funded by the North Carolina State Employee Credit Union Foundation, which pledged $10 million to build a home in each of the 100 North Carolina counties. "Because Robeson does not have a Habitat chapter, we volunteered," said Chris Carpenter, director of Habitat for Humanity of Scotland County. "Habitat chapters are stepping up across the state to accomplish the foundation's goal."

Fatal floodwaters in Scotland County

Floodwaters washed away part of Main Street in downtown Laurinburg in Scotland County. At least one person was killed in the storm.

Fatal flood waters wash away chunks of downtown Laurinburg

The city of Laurinburg and surrounding Scotland County have been hit hard by Hurricane Florence, including at least one death. Floodwaters also took out the county's water system and forced an evacuation when a dam was breached.
