Part of US 74 outside Laurinburg was closed while crews responded to a boat that caught on fire underneath the Highland Road bridge.
Photos from the scene showed a boat that appeared completely destroyed and large plumes of smoke coming from the wreckage.
The circumstances surrounding what happened are not clear. It's not known if there were injuries.
The closure could last well into Friday, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
