Posted — UpdatedSANFORD, N.C. — Tears of joy flowed when a local woman learned she had won $100,000 in the North Carolina Education Lottery.
“I cried,” said Amy Douglas after she turned a $20 scratch-off purchase turned into a $100,000 prize.
Douglas, who lives in Cameron, bought her lucky $2,000,000 Diamond Deluxe ticket from the Prince Mart on Wilson Road in Sanford.
“We bought it because it looked pretty,” Douglas laughed.
She arrived at lottery headquarters Wednesday to claim her prize. After taxes, Douglas took home $71,506.
Douglas said she plans to use her winnings to pay some bills and pay off her mortgage.
