The Oak Island Fire Department responded to three homes struck by lightning on Wednesday night. Two homes had minor damage, but a home on W. Yacht Drive was a total loss.
The fire started around 3 a.m. Seven Cary Fire Department trucks are on scene. It appears that the fire was contained to the garage.

When fire crews arrived on scene around 8:48 p.m., the house was engulfed in flames. The fire department said the home is a total loss.
Firefighters said when they arrived here just after midnight, the side of the home was engulfed in flames.

A fire forced nearly a dozen people out of their home Friday morning in Durham.
One person was killed in a house fire Thursday morning in Chapel Hill.
At 1:37 a.m., the Chapel Hill Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire on Rogerson Drive. When crews arrived, they found the home fully engulfed in flames and a person dead inside the home.
The Johnston County Sheriff's Office responded to a fire Wednesday morning on Renfrow Narron Road. A 70-year-old woman died in the fire.

Investigators said siblings Raven Bynum and Aaron Robinson had argued Saturday night over the sale of the home. Robinson used lighter fluid to set the home on fire while other family members were in bed, according to a release.
Durham firefighter Donald Dixon said no amount of training could have prepared him for what he encountered while trying to put out a recent house fire.

A fire broke out at a home on Wednesday in Cumberland County.
According to authorities, the fire happened around 4:30 p.m. at a home on Turnbull Road. Three people lived in the home and are receiving aid from the American Red Cross.
According to a spokesperson for the town, the fire department received the call around 5:38 p.m. on Monday of a structure fire at a home on Davenbury Way.

31-year-old Brandon Hoskins and 37-year-old Stacie Stegall have been charged with misdemeanor breaking and entering into the house that burned, killing Fire Captain Ronnie Metcalf.
