Two people were killed in a house fire Wednesday morning in Duplin County.

Around 5 a.m., several emergency crews responded to a house fire on South N.C. Highway 41 near Alderman Road near the Duplin/Sampson County line.

When crews arrived, the home was engulfed in flames and the roof had collapsed. After crews put out the fire, they found two people dead inside the home.

The Duplin County Sheriff Office, Duplin County Fire Marshal and Office of State Fire Marshal are on scene investigating the cause and origin of the fire.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area of South N.C. 41 near Powell Page Road in Wallace while law enforcement investigates the incident.
