NORAD Santa Tracker: Follow Santa's trip around the world

As children across North Carolina eagerly await Christmas Eve tonight, North Carolina Emergency Management (NCEM) officials briefed Governor Roy Cooper on state preparations to monitor Santa’s progress and offer any assistance necessary as he delivers presents to homes across the world.

NCEM Director Will Ray reported that the state is in touch with the North Pole and fully prepared but that smooth deliveries are expected across North Carolina.

The full briefing has been recorded here, showing a very serious Cooper preparing to hear a full report on preparations for Santa's arrival.

"I want to make sure our Emergency Management Team is all together and locked down here," said Cooper. "We have to make sure that Santa gets through and leaves presents for all the kids."

The weather team shared they'd been monitoring the situation to ensure Santa's safe flight path.

"We believe the current weather conditions are within the capabilities of Santa's sleigh, and his highly specialized reindeer transportation team," reported a member of the emergency team.

They aren't taking any chances, though.

"We've placed both of our logistical support centers on alert, and they've been fully stocked with hot cocoa, marshmallows, and cookies, as well as carrots to support the specific needs of the reindeer," said the emergency team expert.

Earlier this week, Gov. Cooper directed NCEM to take necessary action to assist Santa as needed on the North Carolina leg of his Christmas Eve journey. NCEM is in contact with North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) to receive up-to-the-minute updates regarding Santa’s status and progress in North Carolina.

Santa’s elves are also keeping a close eye on the weather forecast and ReadyNC.gov to help him prepare for potential inclement weather. They’ve confirmed that his sleigh will be packed with an updated emergency supply kit, warm blankets, rain gear, snacks and other necessary items prior to his departure from the North Pole.

"We've got to make sure Santa gets through," said Cooper. "Everybody stay frosty."
