A man was shot in the chest Sunday morning in Raleigh during an argument, according to police.

Police and EMS were on the scene in the 3500 block of Herndon Oaks Way near Trawick Road around 10:30 a.m.

Investigators were taping off and securing the scene, which appears to be in a neighborhood of townhomes.

According to the Raleigh Police Department, a man broke into his ex-girlfriend's home and an argument ensued between him and one of her friends. Police said the ex-boyfriend shot his ex-girlfriend's friend and fled the scene. 

The friend, who was shot in the chest, was transported to a hospital and is in critical but stable condition after surgery.

The man is out of surgery but his injuries are severe.

Police said the suspect has been identified and the investigation is ongoing.
