The North Carolina Azalea Festival returns to Wilmington this week, with five days of events plus concerts and a weekend-long street fair.

The street fair is one of the highlights of the festival, with 250 vendors spaced along the streets of downtown Wilmington on Friday, Saturday and Sunday selling art, crafts, food, plants and more.

During the street fair, there will be free multicultural performances and a children's area featuring hands-on activities, family-friendly shows, bounce houses, special characters and more.

Country star Brantley Gilbert will kick off a weekend of performances on Thursday at 7 p.m. (lawn seats are $48). REO Speedwagon will perform Friday night (lawn seats are $38), and Cypress Hill will perform Saturday (lawn seats are $42).

Community events get underway as early as Wednesday and feature festivities like juried art shows, an Airlie Gardens luncheon, a boxing competition, a historic home tour and more.

You can visit the event list on the N.C. Azalea Festival website to plan your week and pre-register for ticketed events, like the Little Shop of Horrors performance at Thalian Hall or {$32) or a four-course chef's dinner at Bluewater Grill.
