Raleigh police are investigating after a fifth grader and his friends stumbled upon hateful graffiti at a local park.

A mother and her 10-year-old told WRAL, that the child saw KKK, other racial slurs, and swastikas written on slides at Cedar Hills Rotary Park. The child said several of his friends saw the images as well – and parents called police.

"We were just running around, playing tag and one of my friends saw it, and so, we all walked over. We were like, we don’t know what that means ... then my friend, he just decided to walk away and he saw the other graffiti," said fifth grader Declan Owens.

"If we had any message for them, it would just be that, that's not what we are — our community we live in. That's not what we are about," said parent Cathleen Berry.

Raleigh police did not release any information about their investigation into the graffiti at the park off of Millbrook Road near Falls of Neuse.
