Young hero: 10-year-old raises over $50,000 for Pearl Harbor remembrance

Harrison Johnson, a 10-year-old from North Carolina, is making waves with his ambitious endeavor to raise $100,000 in honor of the heroes of the Pearl Harbor attack.

His campaign, "Harrison’s Heroes," is a heartfelt effort to educate his peers about this pivotal event in history and to keep the memory of the heroes alive for future generations.

Harrison's fascination with Pearl Harbor began with a school history project. His interest quickly grew as he explored books, old newspaper articles, and even communicated with survivors. This deep dive into history inspired him to make a difference.

Following a visit to the Pearl Harbor National Memorial in Oahu, Harrison was motivated to start a campaign to ensure that the stories and sacrifices of those involved, especially the underrepresented heroes, were recognized. He has been working tirelessly to raise funds, focusing particularly on the untold stories of women, minorities, and heroes like Doris Miller, an African American Navy Cross awardee.

Harrison has successfully raised close to $81,000 through community partnerships, speaking engagements, and charity events. His efforts emphasize the importance of remembering the past and honoring the sacrifices made for freedom. “The real heroes are the men and women who sacrificed their lives to protect our freedom,” says Harrison.

As the 82nd anniversary of Pearl Harbor approaches, Harrison’s campaign is more than a fundraising effort; it is a symbol of respect, remembrance, and the power of young minds to make a significant impact.
