MACCLESFIELD, N.C. — A woman, wanted for the murder of her boyfriend, has been taken into custody.

Vicki Russell was arrested overnight by Raleigh police, and she is charged with first-degree murder.

On Thursday, the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office was called to a house on NC 124 in Macclesfield for a welfare check. When deputies arrived, they found 60-year-old Alexander Atkinson dead in the home. It was determined that Atkinson died from an assault.

Detectives identified the suspect as the victim's girlfriend, Vicki Renee Russell, who was found using his debit card and driving his truck.

Russell is being held at the Edgecombe County Detention Center without bond.
