Woman killed in kitchen fire in Halifax County

A 54-year-old woman died Wednesday after a kitchen fire in Halifax County.

LITTLETON, N.C. — A 54-year-old woman died Wednesday after a kitchen fire in Halifax County.

According to the Arcola Fire Department, firefighters responded before 9 a.m. to a house fire with a person trapped inside in the 300 block of Agri-John Road in Littleton.

When firefighters arrived, Halifax County deputies had already pulled the victim, Winnie Francis Anstead, from the home.

Despite life-saving efforts at the scene, Anstead died.

The fire was caused by a cooking incident, and the fire was contained to the kitchen.
