Woman escapes through sunroof of submerged car after hydroplaning into water in Apex

Emergency crews were responding to a car submerged in water off a roadway in Apex.

APEX, N.C. — A woman escaped through her car's sunroof after hydroplaning off the road in Apex and becoming submerged in water, according to troopers.

Emergency crews responded, closing one lane of New Hill Holleman Road near the intersection of Training Ave.

Video from the scene showed a silver car practically entirely underwater, with a shattered sunroof.

A fire truck, EMS and state troopers were on the scene.

Troopers say the woman went home with her family. They do not know the extent of any injuries, but say she is okay.
