RALEIGH, N.C. — After a reprieve from the rain for many Triangle residents on Thursday, wet weather is back in the forecast for Friday and the start of the weekend.

WRAL meteorologist Mike Maze said conditions will gradually improve but not before the next two days.

"The mechanism is going to reestablish itself to bring back the cold, the wind and the rain for Friday," he said. "We're back in the cold soup for tomorrow: the clouds, the rain, the wind, the drizzle, the mist, the yuck. That's what's in store for Friday and Saturday."

The temperatures on Friday are expected to top out in the mid-to-upper 40s and it will be wet and overcast, Maze said.

Saturday will bring similar conditions, he said.

Conditions won't begin to improve until the tail end of the weekend, when the moisture flow from the Gulf of Mexico is cut off.

On Sunday, the temperature could reach the mid-70s but it will be a mix of clouds and sun, Maze said.'

Monday is expected to be sunny but warmer, with highs in the upper 50s.
