Wingate University student attacked with knife, suspect in custody
A student at Wingate University was attacked with a knife on campus Friday night.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A student at Wingate University was attacked with a knife on campus Friday night.
The Charlotte campus was briefly placed on lockdown around 8 p.m. after the attack.
The student received minor cuts to the hand but was able to escape from the attacker.
Wingate police and Union County sheriff's deputies quickly arrived on the scene and arrested a suspect matching the attacker's description.
The suspect is not a student at Wingate.
The injured student is receiving assistance from campus staff.
Campus safety and local law enforcement are increasing patrols this weekend.
