RALEIGH, N.C. — From investigations into House Speaker Tim Moore to the disputed 9th Congressional District election to the partial government shutdown, some stories seem to never come to an end.

Moore's sale of a shuttered chicken plant in Siler City is the focus of two complaints, one alleging that a former aide pressured environmental regulators to reclassify the property to make it eligible for tax breaks and the other trying to link that move to hefty political donations to Republican interests in North Carolina from the CEO of the Arkansas poultry company that bought the site from Moore.

Meanwhile, the FBI has talked to Rep. Jason Saine, R-Lincoln, and former Rep. John Blust, R-Guilford, about Moore's private legal work and whether it influenced legislation.

In the 9th District, state GOP Chairman Robin Hayes accused the chairman of the State Board of Elections of conspiring with Bladen County officials to steal the election from Republican Mark Harris. The elections board is continuing to gather evidence in the case but has yet to interview McCrae Dowless, who is accused of illegally collecting absentee ballots in Bladen County.

As the shutdown drags into its fifth week, it continues to hold up hurricane relief to North Carolina farmers. U.S. Sen. Thom Tillis is the target of an early 2020 political ad because of the impact of the shutdown.

And, with U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi asking President Donald Trump to delay his State of the Union address, scheduled for Jan. 29, Moore has invited the president to deliver the speech at the Legislative Building.
