RALEIGH, N.C. — Tuesday was nice and not as hot. Wednesday will be more of the same. It's Thursday and beyond we have to worry about.

We got a little bit of relief on Tuesday as temperatures were not as hot and there was less humidity. That trend will continue Wednesday before the extreme warm weather returns for Thursday and beyond. with a chance of showers, too.

"The next couple of nights spend some time outside," WRAL meteorologist Mike Maze said. "You'll relish it. Down the road, it's gonna get a lot hotter."

Chances for rain next six days

Tuesday had a heat index in the mid 90s, so it did feel a bit milder. Wednesday is expected to be even milder, with a high around 90 degrees and tolerable humidity brought on by a lower dew point. Temps will be around 90 with the heat index around 91-94.

You can expect partly cloudy skies overnight with the dew points in the 50s and 60s, so it'll feel less hot. Thursday's temperatures will inch higher to around 92 before Friday and Saturday sees temps in the mid to upper 90s. The heat index those days will hover around 98-101.

There will be a 30 percent chance of showers Friday and Saturday but don't expect a lot and don't expect a washout, either.

"The bottom line is you're gonna have to water your lawn or garden because Mother Nature isn't really gonna help out.

7-day forecast starting Wednesday

By Thursday and Friday, it will be hotter and more humid again, with temperatures in the mid 90s and thicker air. Temps will be around 95 with the heat index pushing 100. That trend will continue into the weekend. Little to no rain is expected all week, with just a chance for summer showers each afternoon.

Looking at the weekend, it will also be clear, but very hot.
