Wake changes school makeup days to account for recent winter storm

Officials with the Wake County Public School System announced new makeup information after a winter storm shut down schools for two days this week.

Officials with the Wake County Public School System and Durham Public Schools have announced new makeup information after a winter storm shut down schools for two days last week.

On Friday, Wake County officials announced that a planned make-up day for Saturday, March 16 has been canceled. The district informed parents and students that year-round students will have to attend a full day of classes on Jan. 18 instead of being released out of class early as originally scheduled. 

Other changes for Wake:
  • Traditional-calendar schools: Tuesday, Feb. 19
  • Modified-calendar schools: Tuesday, Dec. 18
  • Wake Young Men’s and Women’s Leadership Academies: Wednesday, Jan. 2
  • Wake STEM Early College: Thursday, Jan. 3
  • Vernon Malone Career and College Academy, Wake Early College of Health Sciences, North Wake College and Career Academy: Wednesday, Jan. 2
  • Barwell Road Elementary and Walnut Creek Elementary: Friday, Jan. 25
  • Carroll Middle, East Garner Middle, East Millbrook Middle: Tuesday, Feb. 19
  • Fox Road Elementary: Friday, March 8

The scheduled weather makeup days for Monday are as follows:

  • Traditional-calendar schools: Friday, Jan. 18
  • Modified-calendar schools: Monday, Dec. 17
  • Wake Young Men’s and Women’s Leadership Academies: Thursday, Dec. 20
  • Wake STEM Early College: Friday, January 4
  • Vernon Malone Career and College Academy, Wake Early College of Health Sciences, North Wake College and Career Academy: Thursday, Jan. 3
  • Year-round, track 1: No make-up day required
  • Year-round, track 2: Saturday, Dec. 15
  • Year-round, track 3: Saturday, Dec. 15
  • Year-round, track 4: Saturday, Dec. 15
  • Barwell Road Elementary and Walnut Creek Elementary: Friday, Dec. 21
  • Carroll Middle, East Garner Middle, East Millbrook Middle: Friday, Feb. 15
  • Fox Road Elementary: Tuesday, Feb. 19\

Durham County

  • Traditional-calendar schools will use inclement weather days on Friday, Jan. 4, and Tuesday, Jan. 22
  • Year-round schools will use a combination of accumulated instructional time and the inclement weather day on Monday, Dec. 17
  • Our four small specialty high schools on college calendars will use a combination of accumulated instructional time and the inclement weather day on Tuesday, Dec. 18
