Maye: Haven't made bowl decision
Drake Maye speaks to the media after a 39-20 loss to NC State
All right again. Great back. I mentioned the four star. Just you guys get behind so early in the game it's kind of a nightmarish start. Yeah, just a lot of things weren't clicking. Um, you know, it starts with me, gotta do a better job and, uh, I just can't, you know, start off that a rough start like we did, you know, you know, a tough environment, um, on the road, um, with a big rival game, uh, you can't do that if you wanna win games. Um, you know, that's a few things that, you know, some guys lined up wrong. Um, I gotta do a better job, making better decisions and, uh, you know, check out on some things if you know, the run look doesn't look good. And, uh, yeah, but it starts with me and I couldn't, couldn't afford that tonight at the end for you to come back into the game. Yeah. Yeah, just to, you know, I think you just never quit, you know, I think that's a sign sign of the feet. Um, you know, no matter, you know how I'm feeling, you know, I think a lot of people out there are going through, you know, tougher things, you know, they don't, um, you know, they are lower legs things. So I wanna get back out with the guys and not leave them out there. Um, and just, you know, they did something to me. So, from your perspective, what was going on in the first quarter? Yeah, just, uh, like I said, well, you know, things weren't clicking and, uh, you know, we got behind the chains and penalties when things did, we know we got penalties and, uh, some false starts and, and, uh, I don't think, you know, the crowd, we, we were on a clap and something sometimes, you know, the, the, the ball was snapped and, um, you know, some, some, some, some noise issues, uh, you know, but really just nothing that really, they did just really self inflicted. You know, things have been hurting us all season. Uh, I just felt like we could have done a better job. Um, you know, whether it was preparing or, um, you know, at the end of the day, you just, like I said, you gotta get off to a good start in a place like this and we didn't do that. Took a blame for the, for the loss is on him or the players. Yeah. Uh, you know, Coach Brown, he's, he's the, he's the best, you know, I think he does a great job of, uh, you know, not being hard on us. And, and, uh, taking the, you know, some of the blame. But, you know, it's a lot of people go into this program. Uh, you know, it's Coach Brown, he always says that just because the guy is. But, you know, it's definitely, uh, you know, the players are making the plays at the end of the day, the plays matter. But, uh, at the same time you gotta go out there and make plays, you know, whatever, you know, no matter what it's called. So, um, definitely doesn't fall on Coach Brown. It's a team sport, it's the ultimate team sport and, uh, you know, I brought Chris Brown, uh, no matter what, you know, in an alley fight. So we already, and how do you explain how everything just kind of flipped that six of us? Yeah. Uh just, uh, just, just, just tough back to back, um, you know, ac C losses, you know, with, with games that we, you know, felt we should have won and, uh, I felt we were a better team and that just kind of put us behind the eight ball and, uh, we try to get back and Duke was a, you know, a great game and a great win. Um, and even there is a tough one and, uh, just at the end of the year, you know, we had three tough games, you know, guys banged up, guys are out, you know, guys playing through injury. Um, you know, applaud the guys out there. We had three or four guys on offense hobbling around and I'm sure the same way on defense. But, uh, you know, just, just love this team and love the effort from the guys. I know, um, you know, the score didn't show but, um, you know, we're better team than that did any of those losses, especially Virginia and Georgia Tech just kind of linger a little bit and maybe a affect the next couple of weeks. Maybe you guys were as sharp a preparation as previously. No, I, I think we stick to the same approach. Try to take the same approach every week and prepare. Um Like, you know, every game is important in college football nowadays. Transport for with all the, you know, good coaching and uh especially in the AC C, you gotta come ready to play every week, you see it, you know, week in week out teams, teams, you know, they shouldn't. So, uh you know, it falls on, you know, me with the offense, you know, I gotta do a better job. Um and I'm the ultimate decision maker. The balls in my hands, touch my hands every play. So, uh the times when, you know, I feel like we didn't answer, um it just falls back on me. Yeah. You know, when we first went out there, I played the turf, you know what I mean? Uh The graphs look great. I a lot better than Clemson's but, uh, he had the slipping issues. I think one of the first, um, times I took off almost flipped in the NFL. But, uh, no, I think, you know, you saw British there the, the last draft up a few times. Um, just, I just, I don't really know, I don't know much about new grass and stuff. So. Well, Max is gonna have some player meetings starting on Monday asking players about their futures whether it be fixed up. I mean, I don't, I'm not gonna ask you for your decisions, but do you have a timetable as to when some of those decisions for you might be made? Yeah. Um Yeah, I'm not really sure, you know, obviously, um those teams would be the role to me this university. I'm gonna sit down with my family, you know, make some decisions. Um, at the end of the day, you know, this, you know, target playing Calum Blue almost meant the world to me, you know, dream come true and, uh I wouldn't finish out the right way, but, you know, I may have, may have another chance to do that of the NFL decision. Do you plan to play in the game? Yeah, I haven't made that decision yet. Um You know, I think, you know, a lot of things weigh into it. Um, but obviously, you know, I'd love to get one more chance out here with these guys, you know, with, with said standing there in the back and I just told him, you know, anytime, um I, I'll go to war with him and no matter what, man, I do, I do battles. Um A lot of the guys on this team, man, just, just bummer at it the way it ended. How much does it feel like last year, you know, right now, considering how you guys finish at the end of the season then and now and kind of the, the parallels that can be done. Uh Yes, that's a good point, you know, I guess um the only thing you just say is just, you know, whether it's fatigue or whether it's uh you getting to the end of the season battling through injuries, you know, everybody battled injuries. Um So just gotta find a way at the end of the season to, to push through, you know, find the extra edge, you know, get the film room extra a little bit, watch a little bit here and there. Uh the little things in a bad note. Um So I think that's a, that's an, and um, you know, I think coach has and, and the guys do a great job preparing us in the, in the summer and um in the off season and it really just falls on the players making plays, you know, under the lights. How much will the information that that coach moody gathers because he gets all the information from the NFL. He's gonna play a role and you talk to him before the family or do you wait to talk to him? No, I go to my family first. Um, yeah, because he's the man, he's the NFL scout for a bunch of years and he knows a lot and knows a lot of people. So I definitely value his opinion and, um, you know, he's the man, you know, walking around here but nothing, you know, really outweighs, you know, first off what I, you know what I wanna do and, uh, second off what, you know, my family. Yeah, it's more of last season. Um, like emotionally, how does it compare to the end of last season? Yeah, I felt kind of kind of the same way, you know, off with Clemson in the regular season, uh, just embarrassing. Um, I really just thought we didn't put our best foot forward tonight. Um, start with me, you know, the, the defense, you know, I put them in bad positions and, uh, they held him to field goals, we gotta go score. I gotta make something happen and we had some success moving the ball when we move fast. Um, kinda got in the rhythm and finally kind of like, felt like we had a chance and then we had, you know, ball tipped up in the air to te you know, get inter it was kind of the dagger, um, just gotta make more plays and I gotta go out there and it was definitely, when they drop a knee and to bring in there, they did a good job on defense and, uh, I couldn't, you know, establish the run. Um, and, uh, you know, at the end of the day, you know, credit to them to their defense and, and their different coordinator does a good job. But, uh, at the end of the day, um, like I said, this guy's fought, you know, there's nothing, uh, it could be, you know, matter. So we left it all out there, we left it all out there and you can question that. So. All right.
