Two people, including toddler, killed in crash Tuesday in Rocky Mount

According to police, the accident happened on the 600 block of Kinston Avenue. Police said the two victims were related.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A car crash killed two people, including a toddler, Tuesday in Rocky Mount.

Rocky Mount Police said a 56-year-old woman was driving a car in the westbound lane of Kingston Avenue and hit two people just after 4 p.m.

60-year-old Barbara Jean Grant and her 2-year-old great grandchild died.

The crash happened outside a home on Kingston Street. The family confirmed they had gathered for the memorial of another family member who died earlier this month.

The child ran into the street and the family member ran after them.

The family did not want to be interviewed following the tragedy.

"This is such a tragedy. We can only imagine what the family and loved ones are experiencing during these difficult time," said Rocky Mount Police Capt. Westlyn Seabreeze.

Police said there are no witnesses and the investigation is ongoing.
