RALEIGH, N.C. — A second person has been arrested after a man was killed in a shooting Monday afternoon along Poole Road in Raleigh.

Raleigh police say 20-year-old J'marree Andrel Smith was charged with murder. This comes after a 14-year-old was taken into custody and charged with murder on Wednesday.

The two were charged in connection with the murder of 24-year-old Amari Goss, who was shot several times along the 1300 block of Poole Road. Officers found Goss at the scene, and he was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Police said the suspect in the shooting is a well-known drug dealer and feel confident they can find the person. It's unclear which suspect is the drug dealer police were referencing.

District Attorney Lorrin Freeman can't say much about the 14-year-old's connection to the murder because of their age. Freeman said her office is now handling at least 12 homicide cases with a juvenile suspect in the last 18 months.

"There is a proliferation of weapons, of guns, on the streets, and I think the common thing we see over and over again in these cases is the easy access to weapons," said Freeman. "Unfortunately, when we’re seeing such an uptick in violent crime, we really need some help in being able to handle these case appropriately to keep the community safe."
