Two people hospitalized in RTP drive-by shooting

Two people were hospitalized in Durham County after a drive-by shooting. The driver and front-seat passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while the rear passenger was not injured.

DURHAM, N.C. — Two people were hospitalized early Friday after Durham County deputies said they were shot in a drive-by shooting.

A driver and front-seat passenger had upper-body gunshot wounds. Authorities took them to an area hosptial for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The Durham County Sheriff's Office said the rear passenger was not injured.

Before 2:30 a.m. Friday, a deputy responded to the intersection of TW Alexander Drive near Cornwallis Road. The deputy saw a Dodge Challenger on the side of the road involved in a single-vehicle crash.

The people inside the Challenger told the deputy someone in an unidentified vehicle began to fire at them, causing them to crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
