Two Durham police officers saved someone Thursday who was originally presumed to be dead.

Officer S. May was flagged down and told there was a dead person behind a building on Calvin Street. When May arrived, he discovered a person laying on the ground in the parking lot unconscious.

He noticed that the individual was still warm to the touch, even though he did not have a pulse. After calling for emergency medical services (EMS), May began administering CPR. Officer Mueller arrived and also assisted giving CPR until EMS arrived.

EMS transported the victim by ambulance and were able to regain a pulse for the victim. He was then hospitalized.

The Durham Police Department said Officer May's and Officer Mueller's quick actions undoubtedly saved this person's life.

The two officers were awarded "Officers of the Month" for their heroic actions.
