Highway Patrol: Person stepped into path of tractor trailer on I-40
A person was killed Monday in a crash involving a tractor trailer on I-40 in Johnston County.

BENSON, N.C. — A person was killed Monday in a crash involving a tractor trailer on I-40 in Johnston County.
According to Sgt. Michael D. Baker with the N.C. State Highway Patrol, a person stepped from the shoulder along the eastbound lanes of the highway into the path of the truck and was killed in the collision.
The identify of the person who died had not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
Both eastbound lanes were closed near Exit 325 for NC-242 for about 30 minutes following the crash, which happened at about 9:30 a.m.
