Top 5 things to know for Memorial Day weekend 2018

1. If you were planning on attending the Freedom Balloon Fest this weekend in Fuquay-Varina, you may not see any balloons take to to the skies. The morning launches were canceled because of fog and low clouds. Organizers are watching the skies to decide if the Saturday evening balloon flights will go on as planned.

2. Keep an eye to the skies. Not to look for balloons but for rain. WRAL meteorologist Mike Moss said there is a 40 percent chance for rain and storms on Saturday. The rain threat drops to about 25 percent on Sunday before bouncing back to 60 percent on Monday.

3. If you are traveling by vehicle this weekend, gas won't be cheap. Gas prices around the Tar Heel state are approaching levels not seen in years.

4. NC State, the No. 3 seed, will go no further in the ACC Tournament. The team fell to Florida State in a crushing loss.

5. Willie Nelson and Kendrick Lamar are both playing the Triangle this weekend. Not together, although that show might be cool to attend. The country music icon and hip hop star are headlining different festivals that have stops this weekend in the Triangle.
