Thousands of gallons of wastewater spill into Fuquay-Varina creek

An estimated 2,500 gallons of untreated wastewater were discharged into an unnamed tributary to Kenneth Creek in the Cape Fear River Basin. The town said there was no impact to public drinking water.

Thousands of gallons of wastewater spilled into a creek Saturday in Fuquay-Varina.

The Town of Fuquay-Varina discovered a wastewater spill on Saturday between S. Main Street and S. Fuquay Avenue.

An estimated 2,500 gallons of untreated wastewater were discharged into an unnamed tributary to Kenneth Creek in the Cape Fear River Basin. The town said there was no impact to public drinking water.

The Division of Water Resources was notified of the event on Sunday.
