GREENSBORO, N.C. — Thousands of people gathered for a memorial bike ride on Sunday to honor a fallen Greensboro police officer.

“Operation Fly Our Flag” organized the memorial ride through downtown Greensboro to honor Sergeant Dale Nix.

Nix was killed on Dec. 30 after he attempted to stop a robbery at a Sheetz gas station he frequented in Guildford County.

Event organizer Nathan Sheppard said Sunday’s ride showed how much Nix meant to the community.

“This was just a testament to what type of person Sgt. Nix was, and what he meant to his city and his department,” he said.

People paid $20 to participate and organizers sold Sergeant Nix badge stickers, which will be available for the rest of the month.

Proceeds from the event and stickers will go to Nix’s family.
