Take the Kids: 8 things for kids to see and do at the Chinese Lantern Festival in Cary
The Chinese Lantern Festival at Booth Ampthitheatre in Cary continues through Jan. 12 and features a variety of massive hand-crafted silk structures that are lit up. And while there's a lot to see at this annual display, there's also a lot to do as well. If you're taking kids, you won't want to miss these spots.

Performances
A variety of Chinese performers take the stage during scheduled performances to show off various feats of strength and agility. I highly recommend taking a break from the lanterns to see these incredible performers in action.
Panda Tunnel
Kids will love to run through and check out all the adorable pandas amid the illuminated arches.
Swings
Take a load off and swing for a bit while you take in the lights. This was a favorite spot for my 10-year-old.
Piano
Recreate the scene from the movie "Big" on this giant keyboard.
Car Display
This car display lets visitors actually enter the car and pretend to go for a drive.
Elephant
Power the lights on and around the elephant with your own energy. The more you pedal the bike, the more the lights change.
Dinosaurs
I'll admit it ... this is sort of an odd display for a lantern festival since there are no lanterns involved. But this year's lantern festival includes several dinosaurs that kids can "ride" on and take pictures with. Might as well ...
Wings
Wrap up your visit by taking a selfie at this display, featuring colorful wings.
