Suspect in custody after car involved in hit-and-run with Raleigh police vehicle

A suspect is in custody after Raleigh police said a car crashed into one of their vehicles then tried to get away before crashing.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A suspect is in custody after Raleigh police said a car crashed into one of their vehicles then tried to get away before crashing.

The suspect, who has not been identified, was traveling south on Leesville Road around 8 p.m. An on-duty officer was traveling east on Westgate Road and attempted to turn left onto Leesville Road. The suspect drove through the intersection and crashed into the Raleigh vehicle.

Officials said the suspect fled onto Westgate Road before crashing into a tree at the corner of Westgate Drive and Sorrell Crossing. The driver and the officer were not seriously injured. Alcohol is believed to be involved in regards to the suspect. Charges are pending on the suspect.
