ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. — Atlantic Beach police are looking for a Volkswagen CC made between 2013 and 2017 in the search for the culprits in the August 2022 stabbing death of an Apex man.

They believe the car was silver or some other light color.

Randall Miller was in the coastal town for a fishing trip when, police say, a group of people who were breaking into vehicles encountered him and stabbed him to death. Police found him early in the morning on Aug. 29, 2022.

Investigators are looking for a Volkswagen CC produced between 2013 and 2017.

A $55,000 reward is available for tips that lead to an arrest or conviction in the case.

In Apex, heart flags line Sue Miller's street and one sits outside her home in a small symbol a community displays to remember Randy, her husband of 45 years.

“I’m just hoping each day, I’ll get a call they have caught the person or people that have done this,” widow Sue Miller said. "They took away a wonderful person love of my life. It's a struggle everyday. It's a horrible nightmare."

The August 2022 crime marked the first homicide in Atlantic Beach in more than a decade. That day, Randy was in Atlantic Beach, loading his truck in preparation for a day out on the water.

"Now I'm hoping since they got the right car people will say 'I have seen that car,'" Sue said.

While it's not the final piece to the puzzle, Sue said it brings a glimmer of hope for closure in the case.

"Everyday I hope and pray they catch this person," Sue said.
