The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating a head-on collision that left two people dead on Kelly Springs Road.

A young child was among the victims, according to the state Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 5 p.m. Saturday near the Wayne-Duplin county line. It left the road closed for several hours while law enforcement investigated the scene.

Several law enforcement agencies responded to the scene, including North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Mount Olive Police Department and Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
