Woman injured, cat killed after crashing into DOT truck on US 70 near Wilson Mills
Tuesday night a woman crashed into a truck that was in a construction zone on U.S. Highway 70 near Wilson Mills.
Around 10:30 p.m. the woman was driving west on U.S. 70 on her way home to Holly Springs when she drifted to the right in a construction zone and hit a DOT contracted truck.
The 22-year-old was charged with DWI, open container and failure to maintain lane control.
She suffered minor injuries and was taken to WakeMed Hospital. Her pet cat was in the car and was killed in the crash.
The truck had been outfitted with a special rear-end safety device to protect concrete barricades. Both the safety device and the driver's car were severely damaged in the crash.
Both westbound lanes on U.S. 70 were blocked by the wreckage following the accident.
The investigation is ongoing.
