An 18-year-old woman was attacked and robbed on Sunday afternoon at Chavis Park, Raleigh police said.

Police said the attack happened at 3 p.m. Sunday and the woman knew her attacker, also “in their late teens.” The woman had a passport taken.

On Tuesday, Ashley Cummings happened to be visiting the park. She said she typically visits at least once a week.

“It’s a little worrisome,” she said of Sunday’s incident.

In a statement, Raleigh police said the young woman was taken to the hospital, but is expected to recover.

“It’s really bizarre,” Cummings said.

Cummings said she still planned to visit Chavis Park.

“Overall, I don’t feel unsafe, or else I wouldn’t come,” she said.

Cummings recommended others to keep an eye out.

“You know, I certainly keep my guard up a little bit and make sure I’m staying aware of what’s around and who’s around,” Cummings said.

Raleigh police are asking anyone with information on this incident to come forward by calling 919-831-6311.
