A Winston-Salem father is expressing his gratitude to Brenner Children's Hospital staff in a big way.

Dan Driscoll's 3-year-old son, Daniel, went to the emergency room July 20 with a high fever, soreness and irritability. He was diagnosed with a staph infection that had caused osteomyelitis in his femur, ankle and foot, WXII reported.

Daniel's hospital stay included surgery and lasted for an entire week.

After his release, Driscoll crafted a message for a digital billboard near the hospital as a small token of appreciation for the pediatric nurses and doctors who cared for his son.

The message reads, "To the entire Brenner Children's 8th Floor Team, THANK YOU. - Baby D (and family)," and it includes a photo of Daniel in his hospital bed.

The sign is currently in the rotation of a digital billboard near the American Legion Post 55 at 111 Miller St.

Dan Driscoll said he selected that location because it was "the only board that I can remember seeing from Baby D’s hospital room in the Brenner’s."
