A gospel artist in Wilson created a new song of encouragement to help people cope during the pandemic.

Songwriter, singer and producer Calvin Suggs said his song became even more personal than he first thought.

At first, Suggs said the COVID-19 pandemic didn’t seem to be a big threat in his hometown of Wilson, but that soon changed.

"A lot of people are dying, even people who I personally know," Suggs said.

The song was Suggs’ way of helping others fight back against coronavirus fears — but he too contracted the virus in December.

"I didn’t know that, when I wrote the song, I personally would be going through coronavirus," Suggs said.

Suggs was concerned about his own risk factors, including being overweight. However, his symptoms were mild and he soon recovered.

Suggs wrote the song "Nobody Can" and convinced Gospel music artist and friend Paul Porter to record the track as a duet.

Both men repeat their firm belief that God is stronger than any sickness in the song’s hook line, "Can’t nobody do you like the Lord!"

"It’s very encouraging, especially for a time like now with the pandemic going on," Suggs said. "People need to be encouraged."

Suggs’ faith is expressed in the song with the lyric, "When we’re going through the coronavirus, He’ll be there, yes, He’ll be there!"

"God does miracles every day," said Suggs. "I want to encourage somebody that’s going through this time of pandemic to be encouraged because God can bring them out of it. It’s not the end."

Suggs said, before his album’s release on New Year’s Day, the song had already sparked a large social media response. The album is called "The Sun Will Shine Again," and Suggs predicts it will become a big hit record.
