Use your Halloween candy for a healthy treat

If you are like me, you have extra Halloween candy in your house! Here are some ideas for how to get rid of it!

Donate it - There are a lot of nonprofits that accept your extra Halloween candy! You can send them to Treats for Troops or Operation Shoebox. The Today Show suggests calling local food pantries and even your local Ronald McDonald House to see if they accept unopened candy.,

Make Halloween Candy Bark - This is a fairly easy recipe, and I love it because you can use whatever kind of candy you want.

Use them to cover your Apple Nachos - Just use your candy to create toppings for the apples! A great variation of Jamei McGee's recipe and you can pretend it's super healthy because there is fruit in there!

Make Loaded Cookie Bars - You can make these from scratch or you can take a box of brownie or cookie dough and add your own candy to it. I'm a fan of adding the candy to brownie mix!

Use them for a tasty Marshmallow Dip - Now if you have Halloween Peeps, this is a great recipe to try. I love doing this dip for Easter every year because I honestly hate Peeps and the only way I will eat them is if we melt them and make this S'mores dip. I do this in one of those disposable aluminum pie pans so it doesn't matter if everything sticks to it! Chop up your favorite candy bars and mix them with some chocolate chips (I love to do a mix of milk, white and peanut butter chips). Put everything on the bottom of the pan and top the pan with Peeps or marshmallows. Cook at 450 degrees for 4-5 minutes.

Participate in a candy buyback program at a local dentist's office - The Halloween Candy Buy Back is a nationwide program where dentist offices generally pay the kids $1 per pound for the candy (usually a 5 lb. limit) and then mail off the collection to Move America Forward or Operation Shoebox, who sort the candy, pack it in boxes and ship it to our military stationed abroad. You can search the database for a participating office near you.
