A Wendell woman is facing charges after she allegedly gave heroin to a 13-year-old, according to court documents.

Robelyn Vasquez Velez, 35, of Yancey Drive, gave the teenager heroin from July 2018 to February 2019, according to an arrest warrant issued in the case.

She was being held Friday in the Wake County Jail in lieu of a $150,000 bond, according to jail records.

The Wake County Sheriff's Office said Velez and the teen knew each other but their relationship was not immediately disclosed.

During an initial court appearance on Friday, Velez did not say much.

She has an arrest warrant that dates back to 2007.
This picture was taken after an arrest for possession with intent to sell heroin.

Jeff Hammerstein works with the Wake County EMS service and is not familiar with the case but he said opioids, such as heroin, can be very dangerous.

"It shuts off a person's respiratory drive so the part of your brain that makes you continue to breathe turns off and you can simply stop breathing," he said.
