A popular local beer festival, plus a host of family-friendly festivals lead our picks for this weekend in the Triangle.

Festivals

April 21-22: Brewgaloo -This craft brewery festival will be held Friday and Saturday in downtown Raleigh. Friday night there will be a sampler event from 6 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $45 per person, with a limited number of tickets being sold. Sample-size pours will be available. On Saturday, beer will be sold by the pint. There is no admission fee to attend the festival, but beer sample tickets will be sold.

April 22-23: 10th Annual Festival of Legends: Magic - The Festival of Legends is celebrating 10 years of magic with live music, mythical monsters, amazing acrobatics, food and, of course, magic. Children 12 and under admitted free (when accompanied by a ticket-holding adult). The event will be held at The Optimist Club Farm in Apex.

April 22: 12th Annual Bearthday Celebration - Bearthday is Raleigh City Farm's annual fundraising event that celebrates our birthday and honors Earth Day. Gather with family and friends to tour the site and learn about regenerative farming practices; enjoy live music, plein air artists, sustainable vendors and children's activities.

April 22: Chalk of the Town - The Town of Holly Springs is hosting this new community festival that celebrates the visual and performing arts.

Comedy and Music

April 21: The Old Friends Acoustic Tour starring Ben Rector - Indie superstar Ben Rector brings this intimate, acoustic performance tour to DPAC.

April 21-22: Kathleen Madigan: Boxed Wine & Tiny Banjos 2023 Tour - Madigan has squeezed in over 40 appearances on late night talk shows and multiple comedy specials airing on Netflix, Comedy Central and HBO. See her on stage at Carolina Theatre.

April 22: Druski - Most recently, Druski served as the opener for Chris Brown and Lil Baby’s joint “One of Them Ones” tour, during the summer of 2022. He was also the official host of J. Cole’s “The Off-Season” arena tour in 2021 that also included appearances by 21 Savage and Morray. See him at DPAC.

April 22: Divas! 2023 - Divas! returns to RLT’s Sutton Theatre for its 17th anniversary in 2023. This annual fundraiser is always a fun time.

April 23: Bill Maher - For more than twenty-five years, Bill Maher has set the boundaries of where funny, political talk can go on American television. See him on stage at DPAC.

Family fun

April 21: NCScience Fest: Statewide Star Party: - Celebrate this year’s NC Statewide Star Party with Durham Parks and Recreation at Old North Durham Park on Friday from 7 to 10 p.m. There will be high powered binoculars and telescopes for high quality viewing. You can also celebrate at the Hope Mills Branch Library. Bring the whole family to enjoy a star-filled story time, crafts, STEAM activities, and view the sky using telescopes! The Chapel Hill Library is also hosting a Star Party. There will be games and activities. Plus, local author Sue Soltis will be there to talk about her children's book, The Stars Just up the Street.

April 21: Raleigh Earth Day - Head to Dix Park for a free community event to explore earth-conscious vendors and organizations while enjoying live music, games, and activities for all ages. Hang out after for a showing a family-friendly movie to conclude the event.

April 21: Movie in the Park - Bring a blanket and chairs to Morrisville Community Park to enjoy the movie Wall-E with your friends and family. Kona Ice – Shaved Ice Truck will be in attendance for purchase as a cool treat. The movie starts at 8 p.m., doors open at 7 p.m. Movies are free to attend.

April 22: Kids Seedling Day- The Carrboro Farmers’ Market will kick off the spring gardening season with Kids Seedling Day on Saturday, April 22! Kids can start their gardens with a free tomato seedling donated by CFM farmers: kids can come by the market gazebo and pick a seedling of their choice, then plant it in a cup with potting soil provided by event sponsor Fifth Season Gardening Company.

April 22: Touch-a-Truck in Garner - Bring the family to this unique opportunity to meet the big trucks (and their operators) that help our community grow! Hosted annually by the Junior League of Raleigh to benefit Wake County families.

April 22: Children's Day Festival - The Children's Day Festival of Cary focuses on the importance of the next generation with the intent of helping them develop an appreciation for the colorful mosaic of cultures in our area. This free event features face painting, make-and-take international crafts, food and more.

April 22: Super Science FunFest - Head to Methodist University where kids can experience hands-on activities related to STEM, including child safety & forensic demos by police officers, fossils and stones provided by Cape Fear Mineral and Gem Society, a petting zoo, space exploration activities, bees, insects, a big fire truck, kids crafts, and more! This event is for kids of all ages and the admission is free!

April 22: Disney-Quest Film Series presents Beauty and The Beast - Enjoy a screening of this classic film Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $8.84 plus taxes and fees.

April 22: Triangle SciTech Expo - Triangle SciTech Expo is a unique event that assembles scientists and technical professionals from universities, organizations and industry to engage visitors of all ages in the excitement of science and technology. The event will take place at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.

April 22: Duke Children's Teddy Bear Hospital + Over the Edge - Duke Children's in downtown Durham hosts this event on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in CCB Plaza. Supporters will rappel down the side of 21c,, and there will be family fun below. Kids can bring their own plush friends to a Teddy Bear Hospital for their checkups. Additionally, there will be supersized games for playing. This event is free and open to the public.

April 22: Duke Football Blue and White Game - The Blue Devils will host the annual spring game this Saturday (free!). From noon – 1:00 p.m., fans can head down to the practice fields to enjoy a football skills challenge, inflatable games, bounce house and obstacle course. Following the game, fans are invited to come onto the field for a 20 minute meet and greet with the players and coaches.

April 22: Spring Ninja Fair - Warrior Tech Raleigh is opening the doors for a free family event. See what kind of ninja you are with their fun obstacle courses. Plus, meet American Ninja Warrior Ninja contestants Matt “Arm Enthusiast” Kalanz, Lilah “L-Grizz” Nathison and Devin “Dougie Fresh” Harrelson!

April 22: Earth Day Litter Clean-up - Litter Sweep is the N.C. Department of Transportation’s biannual statewide roadside litter removal initiative. Smithfield will be hosting families to participate at three local parks. Check out the list here.

April 22: Meet the Author - Dig It! - Join local Cary author Caitlin Sockin on an archeological journey through time and across the globe! With her latest book—DIG IT! Archeology for Kids—as a guide, kids will discover what it means to be an archeologist: digging at a site and working in a scientific lab, interpreting artifacts, and more! This event is geared toward teens and pre-teens. It is a free event at the Eva Perry Regional Library in Apex.

April 23: Music in the Library - April is Jazz Appreciation Month! Come celebrate with us by enjoying the musical styling of Smart Alec Harmonica playing some jazz tunes by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, and more! This is a free event at the South Regional Library in Garner.

April 23: Durham Earth Day Festival - Celebrate environmental awareness and sustainability with Durham Parks and Recreation. Enjoy a day filled with earth-friendly activities, educational resources, a host of vendors, music and food. The event will be held from noon to 5 p.m. at Durham Central Park.

April 23: Durham Community Day - Durham County residents get in to the Museum of Life and Science free with current proof of residence. All adults must have Durham residency to get in free; each adult can bring up to five children.

April 23: Story Time with Willa - Join storyteller Willa Brigham as she brings stories, songs, and always a great, big smile to the Kids Together Playground in Cary! She’s a storyteller, inspirational speaker, performing artist, writer, and two-time Emmy Award Winner! If you’ve never heard Willa, you’ve just never heard a story! This is a free, public event.

Now-April 23: Little River Community Fair - You don't have to wait until the fall to enjoy class fair food and fun. Durham is hosting a week-long fair with carnival with rides, games, food, hotdogs, fries, ice cream, sandwiches, funnel-cake and fried food. Admission and parking are free. Pay $35 for unlimited rides.
