Chance encounter earns NC woman Oprah's praise

A Warren County woman is experiencing her 15 minutes of fame after Oprah Winfrey posted a video of their encounter to her Instagram account.

Almeda Wortham ran into Oprah in New Jersey and decided to sing her a song.

"I just leaned down and touched her hand and said, 'Oprah, I would love to sing for you,' and I just belt out with the singing," said Wortham.

Wortham was attending a funeral which just happened to be across the street from a reunion Oprah was attending.

"My cousin said, 'Almeda, Oprah is going to be over there,' and I said, 'Wow, this is my opportunity,'" she said.

And she took full advantage of the opportunity. Wortham sang to Oprah for close to a minute. The video, recorded on a cell phone, was then posted to Oprah's social media account.

"Oprah has been my idol for years," said Wortham. "When she had the talk show, I always wanted to get on there and sing."

Wortham never did get on the show, but was able to make her own stage. Wortham said it is something she will never forget, and she's hoping the meeting leads to more opportunities to sing and spread her message.

"I'm just blessed," she said. "It's just a feeling that I can not get over."
