Search warrant reveals disturbing new details about newborn's death

A search warrant is revealing what happened before a 3-week-old baby was killed last year.

The warrant states that days before Gunner Bliss died on Oct. 6, a WakeMed police officer said he gave the baby, wrapped in a blanket, to a nurse who looked at him and noticed his complexion was blue in color.

According to the warrant, the boy’s mother, Savannah Bliss, appeared to be very upset. However, the documentation states the father, Noah Benjamin Bliss, did not appear to show any emotion.

Noah Bliss, 22, is charged with the first-degree murder of his son. He also faces charges of intentional child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury in the incident, which occurred on Oct. 6 on the campus of WakeMed.

“For him to be taken so soon is wrong,” Savannah Bliss said in October. “I want justice for my son. He was innocent.”

Gunner and his twin Madelyn were born on Sept. 15 at WakeMed.

The baby's mother, Savannah Bliss, spoke only with WRAL reporter Chelsea Donovan, explaining Gunner was injured at WakeMed while in his father's care.

Savannah Bliss said her husband was watching Gunner and their other child. According to Savannah Bliss, her husband assaulted Gunner.

Gunner died 10 days later due to extensive head trauma.

Noah Benjamin Bliss, 22, of Erwin, was arrested in Raleigh.

Since authorities have held Noah Bliss in the Wake County Jail, the warrant states investigators and a prosecutor started listening in his phone calls from jail.

The warrant also states that in the days before Gunner's death, Noah Bliss called the Johnston County Sheriff's office and told them that he was rocking the baby and may have done it too hard.

Then, Noah Bliss got in his car and told his wife he was going to Florida because he did not want to go to jail for murder.

Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman does not intend to seek the death penalty in this case. A trial date has not been set as of Friday.
