Wake County Animal Center offering pit bull adoption special
You can adopt a pit bull or pit bull mix at the Wake County Animal Center for $25 all month long.
Pit bulls and pit mixes make up 30 percent of the animals admitted to the Wake County Animal Shelter, but Dr. Jennifer Federico, shelter director, said myths and misconceptions about the breed can make it hard for them to find homes.
“Too many people write off pit bulls when they’re looking to adopt, but it’s really wrong to generalize about an entire breed,” Federico said. “Just like people, every dog is an individual and has his or her own unique personality. I have four pit bulls, and they are absolute sweethearts.”
On Tuesday, there were 39 pit bulls at the Wake County Animal Center and 10 in foster homes waiting for adoption. The pit bull special runs through Oct. 31, reducing adoption fees from $95 to $25.
