On Friday, Virginia police arrested a man after a standoff that lead to the discovery of a dead body in the man's car.

Shortly after 1 p.m., the Virginia State Police and Carroll County Sheriff’s Office received multiple reports of a man with a firearm on Highway Route 52 in Carroll County.

Deputies and troopers arrived on scene and were confronted with an armed man identified as Kyle Travis Snow, 37, of Lowgap.

Officers said Snow was confrontational and refused to comply with law enforcement.

After a brief standoff, Snow was placed into custody.

Officers then found a dead body inside of Snow’s car.

The victim was identified as Kevin Dwayne Barker, 44, from Winston-Salem.

Snow was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Second-degree murder
  • Shooting from a vehicle
  • Brandishing a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
  • Possession of a schedule II controlled substance
  • Possession of a firearm while in possession of a schedule II controlled substance
  • Attempted carjacking
  • Use of a firearm in commission of a felony (two counts)
  • Assault and battery

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office believes this is an isolated incident and that there is no further risk to public safety.

This is an ongoing investigation.
