VinFast Auto announced Tuesday it officially signed agreements with 12 new dealers in the U.S., including a dealership in Greensboro. VinFast is already selling cars in the Triangle at Leith VinFast in Cary, which opened late last year.

The 12 new VinFast dealership stores are anticipated to begin opening this month, bringing the total number of VinFast dealers in the U.S. to 18 and spanning across seven states: North Carolina, New York, Texas, Florida, Kansas, Connecticut and Kentucky.

California, the state with the highest EV adoption rate in the U.S., already has 15 operational VinFast stores and service centers.

A VinFast factory is planned for North Carolina in Moncure in Chatham County, but new plans show the Vietnamese electric vehicle maker is scaling down the size of its manufacturing plant to 782,255 square feet, roughly a 20% reduction from the original plans for a 995,500-square-foot building.

The company has said it plans to invest $4 billion into the factory, which will have the capacity to produce up to 150,000 electric vehicles each year in the first phase of the project.

The factory is expected to open in late 2025, but Chatham County said no construction is being done until a permit is issued for the revised foundation plans.

WRAL News took a test drive in December when Leith VinFast opened in Cary. Located at 2000 Auto Park Blvd., Leith VinFast was the first VinFast dealership in the state.

Triad VinFast in Greensboro will be located at 3604 W. Wendover Ave. An opening date was not announced.

The new dealerships, including Greensboro, will start selling the VF 8 model, followed by the VF 9 and VF 7 soon after their U.S. launch. According to VinFast, customers will be offered a 10-year/125,000-mile warranty and a 10-year unlimited mileage warranty for the battery under standard use.

"VinFast will quickly deliver high-quality, competitively priced electric vehicles to consumers, along with outstanding after-sales policies," said David Duncan, VinFast U.S. vice president of sales and marketing. "This establishes a solid foundation for VinFast's strong growth in the U.S. market."

Sales through dealers are expected to contribute significantly to the company's sales in the second half of 2024.

VinFast is also expanding into countries in Asia such as India, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines, as well as in the Middle East and Africa. Outside of Vietnam, VinFast is also aiming to accelerate the construction of EV manufacturing plants in the U.S. and India, with plans to establish an additional plant in Indonesia.
