Friday's rough weather didn't stop Fayetteville residents from celebrating Veterans Day. The location of the ceremony changed, but not the spirit of those who celebrated their military town.

About 60,000 residents of Cumberland County are veterans. Because of the scope of its command and mission, Fort Bragg has more general officers than any other military installation in the country with the exception of the Pentagon.

The event started started at the 11th hour, on the 11th day of the 11th month. It symbolized the hour, day and month when Germany signed an armistice agreement with the Allies to end World War I.

Veterans Day offers a time to reflect on the duty, honor and service of all those who wear the uniform and a time to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

John Cook, a pastor and retired Army chaplain, was one of the guest speakers, reminding those in attendance to remember the sacrifices made by families of veterans, especially during times of war.

Grilley Mitchell, president of the Cumberland County Veterans Council, said, "I think about the sacrifice that my brothers made, and the ones who came before me, and how they made a difference in the freedom that I share today and many of us share."
