A unit of home builder PulteGroup Inc. plans to add up to 157 jobs in Chatham County as part of a $39.9 million investment, state economic development officials said Tuesday.

Innovative Construction Group LLC is expected to create the jobs at a new manufacturing facility in Siler City by 2029, according to state Commerce Department officials, who discussed the project during a meeting of the department’s Economic Investment Committee.

The new facility is expected to employ production and woodworking personnel as people in logistics and maintenance roles. The average salary for the planned positions is expected to be $52,949 — about 5.3% above the Chatham County average, state officials said.

Commerce officials approved an incentives package worth $1.75 million for the company, including a jobs grant of up to $873,750 spread over 12 years. The money is paid out in installments if the company hits hiring targets.

The state incentives are in addition to combined local incentives from Siler City and Chatham County totaling $1.1 million, officials said. The project is estimated to grow the state’s economy by $463.2 million, state officials said.

PulteGroup, one of the nation’s biggest home builders, purchased the ICG’s operations in 2020 in an effort to increase efficiency in the building process and to address trade labor shortages.

Representatives of ICG and PulteGroup didn't immediately respond to requests for comment on Tuesday.
