UNC student wins recount for Chapel Hill council seat over incumbent

A University of North Carolina undergraduate has captured a seat on the Chapel Hill Town Council, recount election results released Friday show.

A University of North Carolina undergraduate has captured a seat on the Chapel Hill Town Council, recount election results released Friday show.

Tai Huynh, a UNC-Chapel Hill senior, received 3,959 votes. Nancy Oates, who joined the council in 2015, had 3,935 votes.

The difference is 0.008 percent of the 28,483 total votes in the election.

Jess Anderson had the most votes in the election, with 5,451. Amy Ryan followed with 4,418, and Michael Parker had 4,276.

The top four candidates won seats in the election.
