UNC system leaders to discuss mental health, $7.7M in new funding

On Tuesday we'll learn about the work being done on college campuses across the state to address mental health.

The President of UNC Peter Hans will speak about mental health issues with hundreds of campus leaders this afternoon.

They'll be discussing ways to deal with the troubling trends concerning college students' mental health.

The theme is “Connecting and Collaborating to Create a Strong and Healthy Future.”

A recent survey at five UNC institutions found the number of students who have had thoughts of suicide range between 10 and 23 percent. That closely follows the national trend of 14 percent.

Since the start of the school year, at least five students have died by suicide just at NC State.
