Two teens charged with murder after man, woman found shot in car in Lumberton

Lumberton police arrested two teens Thursday for the murder and attempted murder of a man and woman who were found shot in their car Wednesday night.

Jabary Murchison, 19, and a 15-year-old boy are both charged with murder.

Wednesday around 6:20 p.m., Lumberton police officers responded to a report of a person shot on the 1300 block of N. Walnut Street.

When officers arrived, they found a man and a woman shot inside a vehicle that had run off the road and into the yard of a home.

Both victims were taken to UNC Health Southeastern for treatment.

Derrick Hester, 44, died due to his injuries.

Ashley Hunt, 35, is in stable condition.

Murchison and the 15-year-old are both being charged with the following crimes:

  • First-degree murder
  • Attempted first-degree murder
  • Discharging a weapon into occupied property
  • Felony conspiracy

Murchison is currently in the Robeson County Detention Center and is being held there without bond.

The 15-year-old is currently being held in a juvenile detention center.

The investigation ongoing.
