Two Marines were in the hospital with serious injuries after another Marine ran over their tent in New Bern.

WITN reports that the man and woman were camping in the Croatan Forest when they were hit by a truck.

They were taken Vidant Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.

Major David McFayden, with the Craven County's Sheriff Office, told WITN that while the Marines' injuries are serious, they are in stable condition.

McFayden said the two injured were stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, and the driver of the truck is stationed at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune.

WITN reports that after hitting the tent, the driver left the scene and was later arrested on base by base authorities. The driver was then taken to Craven County Sheriff's Office.
