Two Forsyth County deputies were dragged by a car during a traffic stop on Friday night.

NBC affiliate WXII reports that Ricky Wallace Simon, 28, of Rural Hall, was charged with felony fleeing to elude, assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer and several felony drug charges.

One deputy initiated the traffic stop for speeding on U.S. Highway 52 around 1 a.m. and called on a K9 team for backup.

WXII reports that when the K9 team arrived, Simon got back into his car and tried to drive away.

Authorities said the deputies were dragged by a Ford Mustang for "some distance" before being thrown from the car. The K9 remained in the car until the driver crashed. Then, authorities said the K9 removed the driver from the car.

The K9 and initial deputy were not injured in the incident, according to authorities, but the second deputy received a broken wrist and head injury. But the second deputy was expected to make a full recovery.

A gun, heroin, cocaine and marijuana was found in the car, authorities said.

Simon remained at Forsyth County Law Enforcement Detention Center on $500,000 bond.
